Oral Systemic Health & Biological Gum Disinfection

Oral Systemic Health

Dr. Jennifer K. Lamont, DDS is a proud member of the American Academy of Oral Systemic Health, and focuses her practice on the connection between the health of your mouth and its role in the overall health of your body. Bacteria that are found in the mouth are directly linked to heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and cancer. If your gums bleed when you brush or floss, that’s a very clear indicator of a bacterial infection. Our goal is to reduce that bacterial load by identifying the pathogens that are present in your mouth and following customized protocols effective against those specific pathogens.

Dr. Lamont is a big proponent of overall health and wellness. The foods we eat, staying hydrated, and exercise are all critical in reducing inflammation in your mouth and your body. It’s all connected!

Biological Gum Disinfection

The recommendations for achieving and maintaining optimal gum health are personalized for each patient. Reducing the bacterial load and inflammation in your mouth directly reduces the bacterial load and inflammation in your body, lowering your risk for heart attack, stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes, adverse pregnancy outcomes, and cancer. It is our goal to help our patients as much as we can through education, prevention, and treatment to achieve their optimal health.

Following a comprehensive periodontal exam at your first appointment, we utilize several techniques to reduce bacteria, including:

  • treatment with ultrasonic scaler which uses a pressurized stream of water to remove deposits and disrupt infected biofilm layer

  • Irrigation with natural products to reduce bacteria (Tooth and Gums Tonic is our favorite!)

  • Laser bacterial reduction

We will then see you on a regular interval to maintain your oral health. We place a heavy emphasis on patient education and home care to maintain the health of your gums. The great care that you take at home is the most important component!
